バーチャル牛舎・Virtual Cattle Barn

Virtual Cattle Barn (or Virtual Gyu-sha in Japanese) was produced for the National Competitive Exhibition of Wagyu (or the “Wagyu Olympics” as they are known) held in October in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan, and was intended to provide the visitors with a feeling of what a real cattle farm is like. It was primarily used with the Meta Quest rather than published on a website.

The Virtual Gyu-Sha transports you to a small cattle farm in Kagoshima Japan. It opens with a traditional virtual tour 360 and you are greeted by the atmospheric sound of the late Summer Japanese countryside recorded at the scene. You are overlooking the 4 barns. If you click any of the barns they will open a Matterport space in a pop-up window and the roar of the exhaust fans and the clanking of the cattle harnesses against the the steel enclosures can be heard clearly. Inside there are videos of the daily activities of the farmers and the cattle.

Most of Virtual Gyu-Sha was photographed with a Sony α7RⅣ mirrorless camera and A Sanyang 14mm Fisheye lens. The photos were converted to 360s and super-imposed on the original Pro2 scans of the 4 barns. The Pro2 scans were mosty hidden as the cattle move too fast for the Pro2’s shutter. The mirrorless camera 360s were heavilly HDR edited to make the dark cattle easier to see in the dark barn which also has a lot of sunlight coming in as there are no walls.

There are several videos embeded in the virtual tours. Most of the videos were made by us here at Meidansha (except the scene of a cow giving birth which was made on the farmer’s phone). The video editing was by Kevin Doyle Jr.

A special thanks to Kagoshima Prefecture and the National Competitive Exhibition of Wagyu (or the “Wagyu Olympics” as they are known) for choosing to use virtual tour technology and Meidansha for this production.

Sakura time lapse 360

This is a time lapse tour of the local park where the propriator of MEIDANSHA CO lives in Osaka, Japan.

It was shot over two weeks in early Spring 2022. Each time returning to the same spot.

The camera used was a Sony α7RⅣ and the usual manual panoramic head was substituted for a DJI RSC2 gimbal, as the space was quite open and paralax issues could be kept to a minimum.

The shots were made with a standard wide-angle 20mm lens and shot in 5 bracket to make HDR (each panorama is made of a whopping 240 raw shots edited in Tiff).

The editing for Sakura time lapse 360 was performed in PTGui, Affinity Photo, and Topaz Gigapixel and then finally compressed to be able to be viewed even on mobile.

Finally the transition was made by using a feature in 3D Vista.

What I found personally most interesting about this timelapse was how the colour of the light changes as the pink petals grow. The initial scene is dull (though each scene was white balanced though a grey card), but the final scene is difussed by the effect of so many pink petals both above and below the camera making for a well balanced shot. The intervening shot is at sunset so the golden time effect that immeditately preceeds the difussed scene is an amazing juxtaposition to this.

那賀町B＆G野外活動センター

この制作は明段舎の試作品です。2021年秋にドローン写真や動画をバーチャルツアーにしたいと思い、「ドローン特区」の徳島県那賀町役場に相談しました。

那賀町は積極的にドローン愛好家の誘致をしている地方自治体で、町内の飛行申請手続きを簡素化しているだけではなく、「ドローンマップ」など、おすすめのドローンスポットなどを公開しています。ぜひ、ドローンが好きなかったでしたら、那賀町を旅行先として選んでください。

那賀町の中でもさらに奥深い木沢地区は、かつては林業で栄えた町だったが、現在では人口減少や鳥獣被害など、他の地方と同じような問題を抱える山村だ。しかし日本の滝100選に選出される名瀑や、樹氷など神々しい自然が身近にある魅力的な町でもある。

こうした風景は、小型無人機ドローンによる空撮を趣味とする人達にとって夢のフィールド。「市内から遠い」「消滅可能性都市」といったマイナス面も、むしろ好条件。今後ますます飛行制限が強化されることが予想されるドローン。そこで地域の自然をいかし、空撮アテンドを行うワンストップサービスを提供し、各地からドローン撮影愛好家が集うまちづくりを目指すことを提案し、2015年秋、那賀町は徳島版ドローン特区に認定された。

ドローンで交流人口の増加を目指し、将来的にはUIターンにつなげることができればと願う。

　「KAJIMA DX LABO」は、2020年10月のオープン以来、冬季閉鎖期間を除く約9か月間で、2,600名以上の見学者が訪れるなど好評を博しています。
